The weather this week has been sensational. 20 degrees during the day and cool at night, but no need for heaters etc. The blackfish are all through the river and biting freely when the tide is moving.
Yesterday we fished the Romiaka entrance with soft plastics for flathead. Daniel was the only one to get a fish, he got a keeper flathead and a small bream, both of which ate his ZMan Slimz in Motor oil colour. These were his first fish on cast lures and he got a real buzz out of casting and hooking and landing them.
Today we fished the middle wall on the run out tide for blackfish. I am happy to say that Rory out fished me by 4 to 3 for a nice bag of fish. He was using his centre pin reel, a nice reconditioned Trudex that I bought for him, on a 10 foot Shakespeare Agility rod. He did a great job hooking and landing fish unaided and managed the centrepin quite well. Daniel fished from the back of the boat with a lure but didn't hook up this time.
The blackfish were thick on the Middle wall and taking the float right under. We caught fish on both black and green weed and all fish were in the mid 30s. It was great fun and good to see the boys getting a day where the fish were really biting. This is a good way to get kids used to float fishing, they don't need to cast, just simply drop the rig in the water and let the current movement do the rest.
Back to Sydney tomorrow and the cold reality of winter after a great week away.
