My first two trips resulted in donuts and today looked like being the same. I hit the water in the bass kayak at around 3:30pm and decided my best chance was to flog the water with a jig spin. I used the ever reliable slider grub in blue and chartreuse, only for it to be anything but reliable! I did at least hook up after fishing about 500m of bank, but what felt like a decent fish threw the hook before I got a chance to see it. My first hookup of the season at least.

I decided to change tactics and hit the opposite bank and worked back upstream with an Atomic Hardz 38, one of the typical bream lures really. I didn't get a touch, but the water on my original run looked good so i decided to give it another shot. 10 casts in and I finally hooked up, this time the hook held and after a few close calls on the timber I boated my first bass for the year, a solid fish over 300. A quick photo before it was liberated. I was relieved to break the duck to be honest, gave another bit of bank a few cast with a soft cicada before calling it quits.
